In February 2013, Marty Lyon of Lyon Landscape Architects gathered a few men in his living room to discuss an idea he’d had about helping their local community. He shared a favorite quote by Margaret Mead, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed individuals can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” This quote served as Marty’s inspiration to look for 100 men to be a part of a powerful new group, 100 Men Who Care. The group could have a great impact on helping those in need in the Wood River Valley area without the time-consuming effort associated with fundraising. When Marty heard about a group of women doing this, he was moved to create an equally motivated group of men with a mission to provide for those in greatest need. He was hopeful that everyone would be as enthused as he was about the possibilities of this new project.

100 Men Who Care Wood River Valley is a diverse group of men who meet once a quarter for one hour. During that hour, they nominate and vote for a deserving charity or non-profit, then write a check for $100 directly to the winning charity. With the potential of 100 men giving $100 each to total $10,000, it’s an easy, yet powerful way to make a positive change for our neighbors in need.
